Ship Deck in Trethomas is nominated in two categories at the 2024 National Fish and Chip Awards.

Trethomas chippy Ship Deck is guaranteed a top five finish at the UK-wide National Fish and Chip Awards.

The chippy, on Newport Road, has made the final five in the Field to Frier category, which considers everything potato – including; where they’ve come from, how they fry, and most importantly, how they taste.

The shop has also made the top ten in the Fish and Chip Takeaway category.

Partners Ryan and Kimberly Hughes opened Ship Deck in 2019 and have become finalists in the annual Fish and Chips Awards for the second consecutive year.

Ryan said: “We are ecstatic to be in the top ten again and proud of our hard-working team for putting Caerphilly on the map as one of the best for fish and chips.”

He continued: “The awards run by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) are run by people who know good fish and chips.

“We put a lot of work into the sourcing of potatoes and are proud to have this achievement.”

Ryan had previously told Caerphilly Observer: “This is still a very prestigious category, with chips obviously being a huge part of why we’re successful.

“A lot goes into making the perfect chip”.

The award ceremony takes place on February 28 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel in London.
