Rae Goman is a “powerhouse vocalist” who is going to prove herself as “one of the most compelling female vocalists of her generation”, according to Newport-based producer Steve Walker.

Rae, from Machen, launched her debut album Old Footsteps last month at Keds Bar in Bedwas. The event drew many local fans excited for the album’s launch.

Rae said: “I’m so happy with the turnout, the album launch was amazing”.

Rae performs her music as part of a band named Lunar.

Guitarist for Lunar, Lewis Mines, said: “Working with Rae has been a great experience, she’s amazingly talented”.

Rae has been writing songs and performing at local venues since the age of 16. Now, at the age of 25, she has officially released her music.

Rae worked on Old Footsteps at Newport’s One Louder Studios with record producer Steve Walker. He said: “Rae has become a powerhouse vocalist with songs that are impactful and poetic.

“It’s rare that we get to see someone grow into their music role so quickly.”

Rae released her first single, Sixteen, in December 2022 and has since been played on radio stations such as Planet Rock.

She said: “Everything I’ve done so far is more than what I expected from myself. All I want to do is make music and that’s what I’m doing.”

Old Footsteps is a mixture of indie-folk rock music. Rae writes from her emotions, creating songs that express the realities of love, heartbreak, and moving on towards finding closure.

Rae says that heartbreak is “God’s gift for song-writing”.

Rae’s music is available to stream on a variety of platforms. She currently has 340 monthly listeners on Spotify and her single from the album Sixteen has been listened to more than 2,000 times so far.

Rae, who uses social media to promote her music, said: “I’ve had so much online support and it’s nice to see people I don’t even know enjoy my music.”

Rae was brought up around music and thanks her parents for her passion. She said: “My dad is my biggest critic but my biggest fan.

“I’ve learnt everything I know from him, this was his dream too – so I feel like I’m doing this for the both of us.”

Her father, Andrew, expressed his pride in his daughter and said: “Your lyrics are up there with the best, I am so proud of my daughter.”

Rae has performed her new music this year at Camden and at a festival in Hereford, but performs regularly in Caerphilly and enjoys taking part in charity events.

This year she performed at a fundraising event organised by the charity Bedwas Theatre Group at Bedwas Workmen’s Hall.

Money raised at the event was donated to a number of local charities.
