The session at Coffi Vista, held on Thursday January 4, was well-attended

Life, as we all know, can be increasingly busy – especially after the madness of Christmas.

But taking a moment, reflecting, and being creative were the key aims of a morning workshop held at Coffi Vista, which has been threatened with closure, in Caerphilly town.

The session was held by community interest company Create Caerphilly, which was selected by national social enterprise 64 Million Artists to be one of just two organisations to hold them in Wales.

It was the second of two events, with the first being held at the Old Library in Caerphilly’s Morgan Jones Park.

Friends Rita Chapman, right, and Shirley Wilson

Create Caerphilly is run by Sally Morgan and Claire Donnelly and regularly hold crafting sessions with a focus on wellbeing.

Claire explained: “This event is part of The January Challenge 2024 a national campaign for creativity from social enterprise 64 Million Artists.

“We had a really positive response from the local community and support from local businesses such as the Old Library and Coffi Vista to hold our events.

“It’s been amazing to see how much people are engaged with creative projects, given a bit of confidence, and what people can produce.”

Mother and daughter Teresa Winiarski and Angharad Berrow

Create Caerphilly originally opened as a creative café on St Fagans Street, but rising costs forced the not-for-profit into becoming a mobile organisation. Now it holds regular classes at a variety of venues across Caerphilly County Borough.

After working with Barnardo’s, Create Caerphilly is now readying a bid for National Lottery Funding to reach more people.

The theme of the workshop was “From My Window” and the venue was chosen for its view of the castle.
