Aviary cocktail bar in Caerphilly town has announced it will be closing down, with owner Calvin Evans-Morgan describing the decision as the hardest he’s ever made.

The popular bar and live music venue opened-up on Cardiff Road, Caerphilly, three years ago at what was a difficult time for businesses amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic.

In a heartfelt message on social media, Mr Evans-Morgan said: “This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but unfortunately I will be closing the doors on Aviary this year.

“This isn’t a decision that has been taken lightly, but taking many different factors into account, this is the only reasonable outcome.

“My mental health has really suffered throughout the experience along with my physical health, recently being diagnosed with a serious heart condition in which stress could trigger another cardiac episode resulting in serious damage/fatality.

“This is the best decision for me and for my family.”

Mr Evans-Morgan previously spoke to Caerphilly Observer shortly after the opening of the 1920s-themed cocktail bar, and described it as a “dream” of his.

The owner went on to thank customers and staff, but said due to staffing problems, stock issues, and an energy crisis; he has had no choice but to close with costs “quadrupling”.

The post continued: “My heart is broken, I’ve put literal blood, sweat and tears into this property and business but it’s time to now concentrate on myself and to start the adoption process with my husband and build on our true dream – a family.

“With the closure it will give me time to concentrate on more important things in life and spend time with the ones I love who have also suffered during my absence.”

Mr Evans-Morgan went on to say that the actual closing date is yet to be announced, but the building is up for rent.

He also said that Aviary will honour all private parties which have already been booked.
