Over the weekend, Wales fell short of a miraculous comeback victory in their Six Nations opener against Scotland. But despite the international action, club sides from across the borough also took to the field.
In the WRU National Championship East, Newbridge were beaten 19-7 at Cardiff Met, with the students moving to the top of the table.
It was the only game played in the division, with Bargoed playing their annual friendly with Scottish side Hawick Quins.
The Bulls welcomed the Quins to Bargoed Park for the fixture, which is held as part of a now-58-year relationship between the sides.
This year’s clash saw the hosts retain the Butters Cup after a 66-5 win.
Meanwhile, no borough outfits were in action in League One East, but down in League Two East, Blackwood RFC have moved up to third after a 17-5 win over Usk.
Over in League Two East Central, Caerphilly climb to fourth after beating Taffs Well 24-17 away.
However, no fixtures were played in League Three East, League Four East, League Five East, or League Six East.
