An 84-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car in Pengam.

The incident happened on Commercial Street at around 1pm on Thursday February 22.

The woman was taken to hospital following the crash, where she later died.

A 54-year-old man from the Caerphilly area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has since been released as Gwent Police’s investigation continues.

Police have confirmed the victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Anyone who saw the collision, or was travelling on Commercial Street between 12.30pm and 1pm on the day, have been urged to contact Gwent Police.
