5,623 visitors came to Ystrad Mynach on Saturday March 23 for its annual fair

More than 5,600 people descended on Ystrad Mynach for its annual spring fair – the busiest day of the year for the town so far.

With a peak attendance of 995 people at around 12pm on Saturday March 23, the council-led event attracted a higher footfall than the last event hosted in Ystrad Mynach in December.

There was a range of activities and attractions at the fair, including an Easter bunny meet and greet, Punch and Judy, the Mid Wales Ghostbusters, a petting farm, face painting, as well as several food and drink stalls.

Surrounding businesses benefited from the event too, according to the council. Jon Richards from Fields of Magnetic Horizon records store said: “It was a vibrant event with lots of new faces in the shop despite bad weather, and lots of positive feedback from people.”

Building materials supplier D Emlyn Lloyd added: “The weather could have been better but it was nice to still see people out and about enjoying themselves.”

The next fair will be held in Blackwood town centre on Saturday April 13.
