Bargoed won the WRU Championship Cup over the weekend, and have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the league title

Bargoed were crowned WRU Championship Cup winners at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Sunday April 7 after a crushing victory over league rivals Ystrad Rhondda.

The Bulls came away with a 65-12 win over a side who are currently level on points with them in the league.

Their weekend was made even better for Bargoed by the fact Cross Keys beat league leaders Cardiff Met 25-23. It means Bargoed remain second, six points off top with four games in hand.

Elsewhere in the WRU National Championship East, Newbridge earned a convincing 55-22 win at home to Rumney, while Bedwas beat St Peters 29-25 away.

Penallta meanwhile won 24-19 at bottom-of-the-table Treorchy.

However, there was little joy for the Caerphilly County Borough outfits in League One East action over the weekend.

Risca remain second from bottom after narrowly losing 37-34 to Abergavenny, who sit on place above them in the league.

Senghenydd meanwhile were beaten 50-5 away to league leaders Brynmawr.

There was more misery in League Two East, with just one point the difference as Blackwood RFC lost 32-31 at Caldicot – dropping to third in the table.

Relegation-battling Oakdale‘s clash with Abertillery was postponed.

Over in League Two East Central, Caerphilly fell 34-17 away to Llantwit Fardre.

Down in League Three East, third-place Rhymney beat Chepstow 33-29, while Machen claimed a 22-15 win at home to Abertysswg Falcons.

However, league leaders Abercarn‘s borough derby with Fleur de Lys was postponed.

In League Four East, Crumlin fell out of the promotion spots after losing 20-17 at home to Gwernyfed, who have climbed above them.

Hafodyrynys were beaten 37-7 at home to New Panteg, but Bedwellty are up to fifth after winning 29-20 over Whiteheads.

Elsewhere, Pontllanfraith reclaimed top spot in League Five East after a 43-10 win at Abersychan Alexanders.

Hollybush have dropped to second after losing 25-5 at Forgeside.

At the bottom of League Six East, Cwmcarn United suffered their tenth defeat of the season after they were crushed 66-7 at home to Magor.

League leaders Deri didn’t play, with their trip to fourth-place Trinant postponed.
