More than £1,000 has been donated to the new breast care unit in Ystrad Mynach, thanks to the fundraising efforts of Pontllanfraith Inner Wheel.

The group organised a charity shopping event at Blackwood’s Bonmarche store to raise money for the new unit, which opened at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr in February.

It was the second such event organised by Pontllanfraith Inner Wheel, having raised £900 for the unit last year, and £700 this year.

The fundraiser saw the shop remain open beyond closing time for an evening, with a buffet and raffle held to raise money.

This, coupled with donations from Lloyds Bank’s Blackwood branch, and Gus Jones Jewellers, meant the group was able to hand over £1,020 to the unit.

Barbel Jones, president of Pontllanfraith Inner Wheel, said: “They were very grateful for the donations.”

Ms Jones explained how members of the Inner Wheel visited the centre to present the money to Sian Redwood, the centre’s manager.

They were then given a tour of the centre, alongside other groups who had made donations.

Ms Jones continued: “We have also raised money for a few other, mainly small charities.

“Anyone in need of a little donation can contact us and we will discuss it in club.”
