Parking permit holders in Caerphilly County Borough will have priority over spaces for longer in the evenings thanks to an extension to the current rules.

Senior councillors backed the plans on Wednesday June 5 for permit-holder-only spaces to be protected from 8am until 8pm, Monday to Saturday.

It will replace the maximum 8am to 6pm limit across the borough.

The change comes after a survey of hundreds of residents found many were unhappy with the current permit hours, which they said ended before they returned home from work.

Traffic management officer Dean Smith told cabinet members the council’s parking wardens will “undertake enforcement later into the evenings, on an ad hoc basis” to apply the new rules.

The new times will cover all permit zones but “can be reduced depending on local circumstances”.

Mr Smith told the cabinet meeting any revisions of the new policy will be made after “consultations with individual households” and on a “consensus basis”.
