Caerphilly’s former Member of Parliament has been knighted in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours.
Wayne David, who served as Caerphilly’s Labour MP for 23 years, is one of three people from Caerphilly County Borough recognised.
Mr David, who has stepped down as Caerphilly’s MP ahead of the upcoming general election, has been recognised for parliamentary and political service.
On hearing the Knighthood, he said: “It was a complete surprise to be given this honour. Throughout my time as a Labour representative, I always did my best to put the interests of my constituents first.
“Democracy is all about standing up for the people in the community you have the privilege to represent.
“I have always tried to do this, and I am so appreciative of the support of the people of Caerphilly, and the support of my wonderful family.”

Meanwhile, long-serving independent councillor Kevin Etheridge, who represents the Blackwood ward, has been awarded an OBE for service to local government.
Cllr Etheridge has been involved in local politics for more than four decades, and has served as the independent group leader on multiple occasions in the council chamber.
Penelope Brockman, from Caerphilly, has also received an OBE for services to mountain rescue.
Ms Brockman, who has been involved with mountain rescue since 1986, is the finance director for Mountain Rescue England and Wales. She is also the chair and former team leader for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team.
Caerphilly -born professional dancer and Strictly star Amy Dowden, who has been off screen battling cancer, has been made an MBE.
