Caerphilly County Borough-based choirs have teamed up to raise more than £600 towards music therapy sessions for pupils at Ystrad Mynach’s Trinity Fields School.

Aber Valley Male Voice Choir and its conductor Geraint Evans, alongside Caerphilly Ladies Choir and the Caerphilly Community Chorus, performed as part of Cymanfa Ganu – a Welsh music festival held earlier this month at St Helen’s Church, Caerphilly.

It was the first of four concerts being held by choirs and musicians across Caerphilly to showcase music in the Caerphilly Basin and inspire more people to get involved.

The music festival group was set up in September 2023 by the Caerphilly Miners Centre’s music group and its patron, former MP Sir Wayne David, to promote wellbeing.

Members of the Miners’ Music Group visited Trinity Fields School, which is for pupils with special education needs, on June 17.

They presented the £626 to the school, and learned about the work of its music department, and discussed ways to work together in the future.
