Polling stations across the UK will open at 7am tomorrow

As millions of people prepare to cast their vote tomorrow, here’s everything you need to know about the general election on Thursday July 4.

When can I vote?

Voting in person opens at 7am on Thursday July 4, and closes at 10pm the same day.

Where do I vote?

By now, you should have received your poll card informing you where to go and cast your vote. Polling stations are often close to your address, at a public building such as a local community hall, school, or leisure centre.

You can only vote at the polling station on your poll card.

You must be at least 18-years-old to vote.

What do I need to bring to vote?

When you get to the polling station, you may be asked by a member of staff if you have your poll card so they can locate your name and address.

You do not need your poll card however, and can simply tell a member of staff your name and address.

For the first time ever in the UK, you will need to show a form of photo ID at a general election to vote. There are several acceptable forms of ID, including your passport, driving licence (or provisional), a bus pass, and many more.

A full list can be found here. The photo on the ID must look like you, however can still be used even if it is out of date.

After providing your name and ID, you will be given a ballot paper containing a list of candidates in your constituency.

You can only vote for one candidate.
