Former Welsh captain Craig Bellamy has been appointed as the new Wales national team head coach.
Bellamy, 44, represented his country 78 times as a player, and takes over from Rob Page on a contract until 2028.
Page, who left the role last month, led Wales to a first World Cup since 1958, and took Wales to the Last 16 at EURO 2020.
On his appointment, Bellamy said: “It’s an incredible honour for me to be given the opportunity to lead my country and it’s the proudest moment of my career.
“It was always my ultimate dream to become the Cymru head coach and I am ready for the challenge.”
During a playing career spanning more than 400 games, Bellamy represented boyhood clubs Cardiff City and Liverpool, and enjoyed successful spells with the likes of Newcastle, West Ham, and Manchester City.
He also played for Norwich City, Coventry City, Celtic, and Blackburn Rovers.
“I will give my full commitment to develop this team and I am passionate to bring continued success into Welsh football,” Bellamy continued.
“I can’t wait to get started with our Nations League games in September.”
Bellamy’s first match in charge of the side will be in the Nations League on September 6, with Wales facing Turkey at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Retiring in 2014, Bellamy earned his coaching badges through the FAW’s Coach Education system, and gained experience coaching in Cardiff City’s academy.
Most recently, Bellamy was acting head coach at Burnley, having served as assistant manager to Vincent Kompany who is now at German giants Bayern Munich.
Before joining Burnley, Bellamy was U21 head coach and senior team assistant coach at Belgian outfit Anderlecht.
Dr David Adams, chief football officer at the FAW, said he was “delighted” with Bellamy’s appointment.
Dr Adams said: “We undertook a thorough recruitment process for the new men’s national team head coach and Craig was identified as the standout candidate.
“We are all looking forward to the Nations League games and working with Craig to deliver success for Welsh Football.”
