A primary school in Trethomas is celebrating after its community engagement work saw it win two awards.

Ty’n y Wern Primary School achieved bronze and silver status last year with the Foundation of Community Engagement.

Teacher and community engagement lead, Caroline ap Hywel, told Caerphilly Observer how the school has been bestowed both the gold and heart of the community award this year.

She said: “Initiatives we run include running adult learning classes, a toddler group and a community bistro run by our Year 6 pupils.”

According to the Foundation of Community Engagement, schools must “maintain standards and consistently empower their communities” to achieve the award.
