Bargoed celebrate their WRU National Championship East title win
Bargoed celebrating their WRU National Championship East title win last season

Men’s rugby union sides across Caerphilly County Borough are gearing up for the new season to begin on September 7.

The 2024/25 season brings huge changes to the Welsh club rugby pyramid, with the introduction of Super Rygbi Cymru – a new ten-team top tier.

While no Caerphilly County Borough sides will be competing in the new top tier, teams have been impacted by a host of changes up and down the pyramid – with divisions reformed across the country.

In total, there will be 298 teams from all four corners of Wales taking part in 30 different leagues this upcoming season.

So what leagues will sides from Caerphilly County Borough be competing in?

Last season’s National Championship East winners Bargoed will compete in the new 13-team National Premiership – the second tier of Welsh club rugby – alongside Cross Keys and Newbridge.

Meanwhile, Bedwas, Penallta, and Ynysddu will compete in the tier below – the new National Championship East.

A single point was the difference as Bedwas earned a hard-fought victory at Penallta
