The Little Cheese attracted nearly 18,000 visitors to Caerphilly
The Little Cheese attracted nearly 18,000 visitors to Caerphilly in 2023

The Caerphilly Cheese Festival is coming to town later this summer, bringing food and craft stalls, entertainment, and more.

The event is on Saturday August 31 and Sunday September 1, and is being held in place of the Big Cheese festival.

The Big Cheese has not been held since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and more recently, ongoing works at Caerphilly Castle. In its place has been the Little Cheese Festival, held at the Twyn car park in recent years.

However, this year’s event will take place on the grassed area behind the castle, while a food court and drinking area is set up at the Twyn car park.

Meanwhile, town centre pubs and restaurants will be setting up outdoor drinking areas during the festival, which is being organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The Cheese Race will also be returning this year, with teams of four wheeling cheese from the back of the castle, through Dafydd Williams Park, and towards the front of the castle.

The free-to-enter race will be on August 31, with the first race starting at 10am.

The first race will be for ages seven to 11, while the second race will be for competitors aged between 12 and 15. The third race will be for over-16s – with a £100 prize for each winning category.

To enter the Caerphilly Cheese Race, contact Sport Caerphilly on meredro@caerphilly.gov.uk or 07919 627426.

For all event enquiries, contact the council on events@caerphilly.gov.uk or call 01443 866390.
