Gwent health bosses have said they “stand in solidarity” with staff amid a spate of far-right riots in England.
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board chair Ann Lloyd, and deputy chief executive James Calvert, issued a joint-statement on behalf of the health board to condemn the recent violence and racism.
They said: “We are devastated by the impact that the violence, racism and destruction in our communities is having on our staff and the people we care for.
“The NHS is made up of many nationalities, religions and backgrounds from across the world and our message is clear: We stand in solidarity with all our staff; there is no place for hatred in the NHS.”
They continued: “We believe in the power of diversity and the strength that comes from different perspectives, backgrounds and experiences, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every member of our staff feels valued, respected and safe when they come to work.
“Our staff have the right to come to work in a safe and respectful environment that is free from harm and discrimination.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy against hate and abuse. Should you witness any form of hate or discrimination, please report it immediately to the police.”
Rioting came in the aftermath of the horrific attack in Southport on July 29, in which three young girls were killed and numerous others injured in a stabbing attack.
False information spread on social media following the attack, invoking Islamophobic attacks on mosques and hotels housing asylum seekers.
Far-right riots have broken out in cities and towns across England, as well as in Belfast, over the last fortnight.
Gwent Police has said it has “prepared accordingly” in case of any disorder in its area, but confirmed there is “no information” to suggest any “planned disorder” is being arranged in Gwent.
