An “inspirational” teenager has been appointed the first ‘Youth Champion’ of Aber Valley Community Council.

Rosie Mantle, 14, impressed the council so much with her community work that it decided to create the ‘Youth Champion’ role for her to be a youth ambassador.

In her role so far she has attended a series of events, visiting different youth centres and food banks.
Describing these visits as an “honour and a privilege” she said: “I love this valley and my community and strive to make it a better place every day.”

Community councillor Dylan Bishop said: “Her ability to research and explore the work within the community and see how we as a council can improve regarding youth is admirable.”

Fellow community councillor, and county councillor, Charlotte Bishop added: “I’m honoured to be appointed Rosie’s chaperone this term and have loved attending the local events as well as county-wide youth events, such as the youth forum, Virginia park Youth Centre and of course our very own SYDIC.

“Her views are always valid and frankly remarkable. I have learned a great deal in a short time and look forward to working with Rosie for the foreseeable future.”

Cllr John Roberts, chair of Aber Valley Community Council, said: “Da iawn and diolch Rosie, for stumping up and being willing to take on the chance to get the voice of our young people especially, but others too in our lovely Aber Valley.”
