Caerphilly’s former MP has been thanked by a youth centre for the support he has shown it over the last 23 years.

Sir Wayne David stepped away from parliament at this summer’s general election, having served Caerphilly in Westminster since 2001.

Following his retirement, the Senghenydd Youth Drop In Centre (SYDIC) invited Sir Wayne to the centre, where he was gifted two glasses with an inscription inside.

The gift was presented to him by three young people who use the centre, alongside SYDIC’s project manager, Dave Bruton.

For more than a quarter of a century, SYDIC has been providing vital support to youngsters, their families, and the wider community.

Sir Wayne said he was “very honoured” to receive the gift and praised the centre for its “fantastic work in Senghenydd for many years”.

He continued: “I have done my best to help and support the centre over many years and I really hope that the centre will continue its excellent work well into the future”.

Sir Wayne added: “Before I was the MP for Caerphilly, I worked for the youth service and I knew of the good work of SYDIC.

“The voluntary youth sector plays an invaluable role in youth service provision and SYDIC has long stood out as one of the best facilities in South Wales.

“I really hope that the worth of SYDIC will continue to be appreciated by funders and decision makers at all levels.”
