Volunteers have raised £13,000 in less than a year to fund the training, food, and vets’ bills for a guide dog.

Supermarket collections, musical events and talks have all helped the Caerphilly and Pontypridd Guide Dogs Cymru group hit their fundraising target in just ten months.

The money will cover the costs of two-year-old golden retriever Rodney for his entire working life.

Rodney is working with a young first-time owner in Scotland having qualifying as a guide dog in March.

Ruth Evans, community fundraising relationship manager for Guide Dogs Cymru, said: “Our Caerphilly and Pontypridd group has done incredibly well to raise so much in just ten months.

“Shoppers in the area love meeting our dogs, and they give so generously. The money will make a real difference to people with sight loss.”

The group’s next collection takes place at Tesco in Upper Boat on September 13 and 14.

Visit the Guide Dogs website for more information on volunteering.
