Bargoed celebrate their WRU National Championship East title win in 2023/24

Men’s club rugby union gets back underway across Wales this weekend as the 2024/25 season begins.

Teams kick-off their seasons on Saturday September 7, following a shakeup of the Welsh club rugby pyramid over the summer.

The changes see the introduction of Super Rygbi Cymru – a new ten-team top tier.

While no Caerphilly County Borough sides will be competing in the new top tier, teams have been impacted by a host of changes up and down the pyramid – with divisions reformed across the country.

In total, there will be 298 teams from all four corners of Wales taking part in 30 different leagues this upcoming season.

  • What leagues will Caerphilly County Borough’s rugby union sides play in this season?

Last season’s National Championship East winners Bargoed will begin life in the new 13-team National Premiership – the second tier of Welsh club rugby – with a home clash against Llangennech.

Meanwhile, Cross Keys will host Bonymaen, while Newbridge take on Brecon at home.

Down in the new National Championship East, Ynysddu travel to Treorchy, while Penallta host Caerphilly County Borough rivals Bedwas.
