Marina Davies spent her birthday hundreds of feet in the air looking down at the “beautiful Cotswolds” as part of her charity wingwalk.
Strapped upright to the top wing of a 1940 Stearsman biplane, the Rudry resident described the “beautiful” scenery beneath her as she took off from an airfield in Cirencester yesterday (Tuesday September 11).
The adrenaline-fuelled mission was to raise money for the Royal Air Force (RAF) Association, which supports members of the RAF community – a cause close to Marina’s heart due to her family links with the RAF.
Marina told Caerphilly Observer how she had a “wonderful day”, and has already raised more than £1,200 for the charity.
It wasn’t the first daring task Marina has done to raise money for charity. For her 80th birthday, she did a parachute jump to raise money for the Royal Marines in memory of her “uncle Charlie” who was one of the first onto the beaches during the Normandy landings.
