The last firework display held by the community council was in Trethomas last year
Councillors recently met with Rhys Norman from the Art of Sparks

After claims a fireworks display in Trethomas was “hijacked” by BTM Community Council, councillors have apologised for their role in the controversy.

Residents in and around Trethomas were left angered when the community council announced it would not be supporting the local company that has carried out the fireworks display for the past three years.

In a recent meeting between councillors and Rhys Norman, of the Art of Sparks, the community council acknowledged a “breakdown in procedures” and apologised for opting to go with another firework company instead.

The community council has since announced it has called-off that display due to the reaction of the public, but has been charged 75% of the display cost anyway due to late cancellation.

When asked by Caerphilly Observer how much the 75% equated to, the community council did not comment.

In a post on social media, BTM community councillor Kevin Ingram said the show was cancelled due to threats made towards fellow councillors, who would feel “unsafe” marshalling the event.

Mr Norman and the Art of Sparks plan to carry-out a display without the financial support of the community council on Saturday November 9 at Graig y Rhacca Football Field.
