Up to £5,000 is available for community groups, voluntary organisations, and charities supporting children and young people in Gwent.

The money is being made available through the Gwent High Sheriff Community Fund.

Successful applicants will be decided in March next year, at an event allowing local people to decide which initiatives would best address local issues.

The Gwent police and crime commissioner’s office makes an annual contribution to the fund, with a £65,000 being donated this year.

Gwent PCC Jane Mudd said the funding will “help ensure that grassroots community groups can access essential funding to support young people in their area”.

Ms Mudd continued: “If your group is running a project that is creating positive opportunities for children and young people, offering them an alternative to becoming involved in crime and antisocial behaviour, then I would urge you to apply and together we can make a difference.”
