This weekend, thousands of runners will descend on the Welsh capital for the Cardiff Half Marathon.

Among those running on Sunday October 6 is Julia Davies, who is leading a group of family members running in memory of her late cousin, Lindsay Jones – while raising money for Gwent Wildlife Trust.

Julia, her sons Morgan and Kai, and Lindsay’s daughter Tasie, have set up a JustGiving page, to raise funds to help restore wildlife and habitats across Gwent.

Julia said: “We lost Lindsay far too soon. Everyone who knew her will always remember the wonderful times shared with her – so many of which were shared in nature.”

Julia, who spent her childhood in Blackwood and Newbridge, continued: “Camping out the river, striding up the mountain, looking after the birds nesting in her garden  – Lindsay’s love of wildlife shone through.

“So we wanted to raise funds in her memory to help Gwent Wildlife Trust to protect and restore Gwent’s amazing wildlife.”

Ahead of their run, the team have come up with an innovative idea to help tackle the over-production of running t-shirts and the resulting clothing waste.

Working with Preloved Sports CIC and Gwent Wildlife Trust, they have created reusable patches to pin onto their running gear, which can be transferred to other t-shirts over and over again.

Debbie Stenner, of Gwent Wildlife Trust, said: “All funds raised from their efforts will help us to continue to save and restore wildlife throughout Gwent, which makes a lasting legacy to Lindsay’s love of nature.”
