There were some big wins and some big defeats as Caerphilly County Borough’s sides returned to league action on October 12

It was a mixed weekend for Caerphilly County Borough’s rugby union clubs as teams returned to league action following last weekend’s cup games.

In the National Premiership, Bargoed moved up the table with a big 66-21 win against Bonymaen.

Meanwhile, Cross Keys climb above Newbridge after beating them 21-17 away from home.

In the National Championship East, Bedwas claimed a resounding 78-5 win at Ynysddu, pushing the hosts further down to tenth in the table. Penallta meanwhile stay third after an impressive 38-5 win at home to St Peters.

Over in Division 1 East, Nelson now have their second win of the season after beating Monmouth 18-15 away. Senghenydd weren’t so lucky however, losing 27-12 at home to Abertillery.

In Division 2 East, Blackwood RFC have maintained their perfect record so far this season after beating Garndiffaith 47-24.

However, Risca remain winless at the other end of the table after losing 23-16 at home to Blaina.

Abercarn were also beaten, losing by a slender 18-15 scoreline away to Pill Harriers.

Over in Division 2 East Central, Caerphilly remain top of the tree after making it four wins from four – defeating Gilfach Goch 40-34 away.

Meanwhile, Fleur de Lys extended their perfect start to the season in Division 3 East, and stay top after beating Panteg 20-18.

Elsewhere in the division, Rhymney came out on top in an all-borough clash at home to Machen, winning 33-24.

But there was a heavy defeat for their local rivals Abertysswg Falcons, who were the victims of a 71-0 thrashing away to Newport Saracens.

There was no joy for winless Oakdale either, who lost 36-14 at home to Chepstow and remain at the foot of the table.

Disappointment was felt by Crumlin too, who were beaten 38-31 away to RTB Ebbw Vale in Division 4 East.

However, Pontllanfraith‘s trip to Bettws was postponed, as was Bedwellty‘s visit to Gwernyfed.

Down in Division 5 East, Blackwood Stars have climbed to second in the table after a 33-20 home win over Hartridge.

They are now behind only league leaders Deri, whose visit to Hafodyrynys was called off.

But Hollybush‘s trip to Magor did go ahead, with the visitors coming out on top in a low-scoring 5-3 scoreline.

Over in Division 6 East, league leaders New Tredegar made it three wins from their first three with an emphatic 83-0 win at Cwmcarn United.

Finally, Bargoed Athletic go top of Division 6 East Central after comfortably beating Bridgend Athletic 48-7, while Penallta Athletic are up to fourth after a 34-31 win away to St Peters Athletic.
