The proposed Veolia site in Abercarn

Waste firm Veolia has been given planning permission to slightly alter plans for the redevelopment of a site in Abercarn.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s planning committee agreed, in February 2024, to back the firm’s plans for the former Robinsons Manufacturing Ltd warehouse on Cemetery Road.

The project was back before the committee, on Wednesday November 13, after Veolia asked for an amendment to the previously-agreed proposals.

Council planning officer Anthony Pyne said the matter involved “somewhat subtle changes to the layout” of the site.

A mezzanine area in the original plans would now be removed and replaced with a “short” cabin-style structure.

Meanwhile, the firm had also requested an alteration to the size of an extension approved by the committee in February.

Mr Pyne said no objections had been lodged to the amended plans, which he said would pose “no unacceptable impacts on the visual characteristics of the area”.

The planning committee voted unanimously to approve the changes.
