A 7km stretch of the Sirhowy River has been contaminated
Volunteers are needed to clean the banks of the Sirhowy River

Groundwork Wales is calling on volunteers to help with its community clean-up in Blackwood next week.

The charity will be meeting on Wednesday November 27 at Blackwood Rugby Club for a 10am start, before cleaning litter along the banks of the Sirhowy River until 12pm.

Faye Williams, project manager at Groundwork Wales said: “If you have never been to one of our river clean-ups before, you can expect to be met by friendly organisers who will supply gloves, litter pickers, and bags to collect litter around the river banks.

“You don’t need any equipment or previous experience to take part. Waders and wellies can be loaned to those who want to remove litter from the river bed if the water level is low enough.

“It doesn’t matter if you don’t know anyone, lots of people come alone to our river clean-ups and have a great time.”
