Christmas lights, fireworks, fairs and pantos. What’s on this weekend and beyond

Saturday November 30

☃️ Caerphilly Winter Fair is on in the town centre with plenty of things to do and buy ahead of Christmas, including Caerphilly Artisan Market at the Twyn Community Centre, Crafty Legs’ Craft Fair & Market at the Cenotaph, Castle Court Craft and Food Market in Castle Court Shopping Centre and Ffos Caerffili.

🎆 This event is also host to the River of Light Lantern Parade that starts at 5pm and concludes with a fireworks display at 5.45pm.

🏛 A free family fun day is being held at Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall between 11am and 4pm.

Here’s a rundown of the activities: 11am: Kids crafts and activities; 12noon Storytime with Mother Christmas ‘Twas the night before Christmas and festive short stories; 1.30pm Side By Side Community Choir; 2pm Christmas Singalong. There will also be a raffle and refreshments available.

🏮 Bargoed’s Music and Light Lantern Parade takes place on December 7 and families can attend St Gwladys’ Church Hall for a free lantern making workshop on Saturday November 30 between 10am and 4pm.

🎄 Risca Town Council is holding its Christmas Light Switch-On event on Saturday November 30 from 3.30pm to 6.30pm in Tredegar Park, (or Risca Park as it is known to most).

Jagger & Woody from Heart radio will be taking the lead, with live entertainment being provided by Matthew Scott and his band, Kelly Hastings from The Voice, The Applause Group, and choirs from local primary school children.

Free refreshments will be provided by Risca Town Council, with stalls and fairground rides adding to the fun.

Come along to Parc Cwm Darran’s Lakeside View Cafe for their Christmas Fair between 10am and 2pm.

🦌 Newbridge Memo is also holding its Christmas Fair between 11am and 4pm.​​​​​​​

🎅 Santa Claus has lost everything he needs to make his special journey on Christmas Eve. Can you help him find the items hidden in Risca town centre?

Pick up your free activity form and map from: Risca Library; Ice Ice Baby Desserts; and Risca Pine Centre until Saturday December 7.

Sunday December 1

🎵 Stick in the Wheel – the duo of Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter – will be at Cwmcarn Hotel’s Fork and Tune at 7pm. Tickets cost £16 and available here.

🤼 VCW Pro Wrestling at Trecenydd Community Hall. Great family entertainment. Tickets cost £10 an adult, £8 for kids, or £30 for a group of four. Buy online here.

Wednesday December 4

♟️ Enjoy classic board games at Game On For All in Rhymney Library every Wednesday between 2pm and 4pm.

Thursday December 5

🧚‍♀️ The Rubber Chicken Players are returning for their 2024 pantomime at Newbridge Memo and this year it’s…Alice – Down the Rabbit Hole. Running on December 5, 6, 7 at 7pm with an additional afternoon performance on Saturday 7 at 1pm. Ticket prices vary. More information and to book.

Friday December 6

💷 Owen Money’s annual Christmas panto starts at Blackwood Miners Institute and runs until Monday December 30. This year it is Beauty and the Beast. For ticket prices and to book visit the BMI website.
