It’s a cliché, but the pandemic changed things for many of us, and it was no different for Dan Roberts, who saw his business venture stumble in the face of lockdown.
But as one door closes, another one opens and a part-time interest in drone photography has now led to a new venture for Dan; Star-Lite Drone Photography.
Dan, 33, from Caerphilly, explained: “With my last bit of money, after my vape business closed, I thought I’d buy a drone to sell-on to make a bit more.”
After filming hay baling on a farm as a test and posting the footage on social media, the original plan soon changed.
Dan said: “After that, I had people reaching out to me asking if I could do videos for them. It opened up so much of a window for me to do this as a business.”
The next step was to get all the correct licences in place with the Civil Aviation Authority, which Dan completed successfully, and he was ready for his fledgling business to take-off.
Five years on, and together with photographer wife Jess, Dan has worked with local builders carrying out roof surveys, estate agents, event organisers and even the police – providing visual support for extra large haulage loads navigating tight roads.
He now has his sights set on developing contacts in the television industry.
