All members of the choir signed a pledge ahead of the concert

Aber Valley Male Voice Choir will sing alongside Caerphilly Ladies Choir as part of the ‘Not in My Name’ campaign, which aims to end all violence and abuse towards women.

As part of the campaign, members of the all-male choir came together recently to sign a pledge, ahead of the joint carol singing concert on Friday December 13.

Choir members will also be wearing white ribbons, which symbolise the campaign, when they perform at St Helen’s Church, Caerphilly.

The signed campaign poster will then be handed over to Caerphilly Women’s Institute.

Paul Newman, chairman of Aber Valley Male Voice Choir, said: “Our choir is greatly indebted to everyone from our outstanding female accompanist, to female concert volunteers, supportive wives and partners, and the bulk of our audiences, who should all be treated with dignity and respect at all times.

“This week marks International Human Rights Day, and as we embark on the festive season, it is also a time when women are especially vulnerable to abuse both within the home and whilst out and about.”

Alun Thomas, a choir member and public relations lead for the Welsh Association of Male Choirs, said: “I know that the organisers of the campaign consider that male choirs remain popular and influential in their communities.

“We are therefore proud that Aber Valley Male Voice Choir are one of the earliest choirs to support this initiative, and would encourage others to do so.”

The concert is due to start at 7pm, and entry is free.
