The group welcomed new volunteers at a Christmas meeting

Wellbeing group ‘Thriving Communities’ has welcomed ten new volunteers at a recent gathering in Llanbradach Community Centre.

Founded by Dr Manmeet Kaur, the group is also responsible for Facebook group ‘Hengoed Happiness’, where walks, mediation, and social activities are arranged.

Their most recent meeting was attended by Caerphilly’s Senedd Member Hefin David. During a “warm” round-table session, attendees shared their personal stories, where a “heartfelt theme” of inclusivity emerged.

Dr David said: “It was a pleasure to join the group here today. I wasn’t sure what to expect of the session, but it was brilliant.

“It really is amazing how speaking openly amongst others about how we feel and our own personal challenges can bring about a real sense of support. It helps you feel less alone.”

Thriving Communities is planning on holding a Christmas lunch social on Christmas day in Bargoed.

“A really lovely day”: Community comes together to celebrate Christmas at free event

Dr David continued: “I really can’t believe the extent of the group. There are so many volunteers who want to help each other and so many different things going on.

“In January they will be running a breathwork course. They also do yoga, mediation, social get-togethers and other activities, which really foster a shared sense of purpose and make you feel a part of something.

“I’m looking forward to coming back for another session and will support the group however I can.”

Thriving Communities offers free training, mentoring, and support for all volunteers, and provides opportunities to contribute to wellbeing programmes, community projects, and more.
