Chairman Paul Newman presenting the pledge to members of the women’s institute

Aber Valley Male Voice Choir sang alongside Caerphilly Ladies Choir as part of the ‘Not in My Name’ campaign, raising £800 for two charities.

The campaign, which aims to end all violence and abuse towards women, saw the all-male group sign a pledge before the concert, which was held on Friday December 13 at St Helen’s Church.

The pledge was then presented to Caerphilly’s women’s institute.

Choir members also wore white ribbons, which symbolise the campaign, and £800 was raised, split between Tŷ Hafan Hospice and Caerphilly Street Pastors.

Paul Newman, Chairman of Aber Valley Male Voice Choir, said: “Our choir is greatly indebted to everyone from our outstanding female accompanist, to female concert volunteers, supportive wives and partners, and the bulk of our audiences and all should be treated with dignity and respect at all times.”

Alun Thomas, a choir member and public relations lead for the Welsh Association of Male Choirs, said: “I know that the organisers of the campaign consider that male choirs remain popular and influential in their communities.

“We are therefore proud that Aber Valley Male Voice Choir are one of the earliest choirs to support this initiative, and would encourage others to do so.”
