Cold weather disrupted fixtures on Saturday January 11

With temperatures close to freezing, most games were called off over the weekend, leaving a host of clubs still waiting for their first game of the new year.

None of Caerphilly County Borough’s sides were able to compete in the WRU Premiership due to the icy conditions, with Newbridge still yet to play a Premiership game in 2025. As a consequence, they drop down to tenth in the table, with Bargoed remaining fourth. Cross Keys did not have a scheduled fixture and stay fifth.

Attention then turned to the Admiral Championship East, where Penallta climbed to the top of the table, beginning 2025 in style with a 43-17 win at home over Talywain on Saturday January 11. However, title challengers Bedwas‘ had their game at Treorchy postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The Pitmen sit top of the table with 49 points from 13 games, while Bedwas are in third with 47 points after just ten games.

Down in Division 3 East, Rhymney recorded an 18-11 win at fellow Caerphilly County Borough side Machen to retain top spot.

Elsewhere in the division, Oakdale‘s poor run continued with a 39-19 defeat at Chepstow to remain at the foot of the table. However, both Fleur de Lys and Abertysswg Falcons had their fixtures postponed.
