Friday February 7 marks exactly 100 years since Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall first opened its doors, and the occasion is being marked with a special gala concert.
The gala will include performances from BTM: Next Generation brass band and Caerphilly Male Voice Choir.
Tickets are free, but limited, and can be booked online at www.caerphillyworkmenshall.org
In 1906, a group of local workers started the welfare movement in Caerphilly, organising miners and other workers to donate a small portion of their weekly wages to fund the hall’s construction.
On February 7, 1925, Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall, which is now Grade II listed, opened to the public for the first time with a concert featuring choirs, singers and music recitals. A century later, its Centennial Gala will once again showcase local musical talent.
Kathy Lye, chair of the hall’s trustees said: “All the volunteers have worked very hard over the past year to bring this gala together and we are very excited to be able to welcome members of our community to join us in our beautiful hall.
“We hope that anyone joining us for this special night will love the building as much as we all do.”
