Greenfields Day Nursery opened in Blackwood earlier this month

After nine successful years in Rogerstone, Greenfields Day Nursery has opened a brand-new childcare centre in Blackwood.

The new facility, and only full-day care setting in Blackwood Town Centre, opened earlier this month on Bridge Street, with help from a £25,000 grant from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Greenfields Day Nursery will create 25 new jobs and provide a range of services, including Flying Start Provision for two-year-olds, the Childcare Offer for Wales, before and after-school care, and holiday provision.

In total, the nursery will provide 68 spaces for children.

The nursery has also said it will be working with local suppliers to provide fresh fruit and veg for the children, and a nearby company will do the laundry.

Greenfields will also partner with Blackwood Rugby Club in a bit to “foster community spirit”, while staff at the nursery will receive discounted gym membership to “improve their wellbeing.”

Jason Roberts-Jones, owner of the nursery, said: “The grant and support made it achievable; we couldn’t have ever achieved it without the backing. The application for the grant process was very straightforward, and I’m very appreciative of the support from Caerphilly Council.”

Childcare business rates relief made permanent in Wales

The nursery has been designed with security and safety in mind, and features buzzer entry systems and CCTV surveillance.

It is divided into three zones: a preschool area for ages three to five, a zone for two to three-year-olds, and a first floor designated for children under two, complete with play and sleeping areas.

Greenfields Day Nursery is also registered with the government’s tax-free childcare scheme and childcare vouchers, allowing eligible working parents of three to four-year-olds to claim funding towards the cost of childcare, providing 30 hours of early education and childcare in Wales.
