Four men in hospital and eight arrested after fights in Blackwood and Newbridge

The fights broke out at around 2.45pm on Thursday

Eight men have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after two separate fights broke out in Blackwood and Newbridge.

The two fights both occurred within ten minutes of each other yesterday (Thursday February 13), at around 2.45pm on Blackwood High Street and Newbridge High Street.

Gwent Police confirmed four men were taken to hospital for treatment, three of which have since been discharged.

It’s not believed any of the injuries are life-threatening or life-changing.

Eight men arrested after fights in Blackwood and Newbridge

Detective Inspector Elaine Newbury, the senior investigating officer, said: “We have arrested eight men on suspicion of violent disorder, they all remain in custody at this time.

“Although these two reports of disorder appear to be linked, we are treating this as an isolated incident and not linked to previous antisocial behaviour reported in Blackwood or Newbridge.

“Officers will remain in these two areas so if you have any questions, information or concerns, then please take the time to talk with them.

“We want to hear from anyone who has information on the identities of anyone involved, or details that could assist our enquires.”
