YYFM have partnered with Valley View Care Home for a new series

Residents of Valley View Care Home in Cefn Hengoed are sharing their “treasured memories” as part of a new project hosted by hospital radio station, YYFM.

YYFM, or Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr FM, was created by Steven Davies in February 2021, as a free and accessible hospital radio station for patients in Ystrad Mynach.

This latest storytelling project aims to “capture and preserve personal stories” according to Lynne Williams, who is a volunteer at YYFM Radio.

At the recent launch event, care home residents gathered alongside the YYFM team, all eager to hear the first instalment – with more planned throughout the year.

The initiative will “foster connections between generations”, according to Lynne, who added how it will also help “highlight the rich history and personal experiences from within the local community”.

Valley View’s manager described the project as a “meaningful way to give residents a voice and celebrate their pasts”.

She also praised YYFM Radio for this “unique” opportunity to bring “authentic local stories” to the airwaves. Visit www.yyfm.org to listen.
