Gas works in Caerphilly Town ‘progressing well’ ahead of completion date

The works has moved to a different section of Pontygwindy Road, Caerphilly

Wales and West Utilities has said it hopes to finish upgrading gas pipes on Caerphilly’s Pontygwindy Road before May, as work is “progressing well”.

The £350,000 project began in October last year, with work on the junction outside Asda now finished, as the temporary traffic lights have been moved to the junction with Virginia View.

The utility company said “barring any engineering difficulties”, this section should be complete by April 14.

Andrew Coleman is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said: “We are making good progress with this work and would like to thank the local community for their patience whilst it’s ongoing.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider Caerphilly area.

“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”

Mr Coleman added: “This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
