Four industrial units can be built on undeveloped land in Pontllanfraith, Caerphilly County Borough Council has decided.

The plot of land off Newbridge Road is ringed by trees, including several which are subject to preservation orders (TPOs), case officer Helen Winsall told the council’s planning committee.

Councillors heard TPOs were issued during the application process over concerns access to the proposed units could require the removal of several trees.

But that access route has now been amended to avoid any of the protected trees.

Ms Winsall said a “significant amount” of hardstanding has already been put down at the site, in anticipation of the development gaining council approval.

The site is earmarked for employment use in the council’s Local Development Plan, she added.

The committee heard the units proposed by application Starburst UK Ltd will be contained within a single “fairly standard, industrial shed” building.

Members voted unanimously to grant planning permission for the development, subject to conditions.
