Two teenagers have been charged with burglary following break-ins at a charity in Risca.

Gwent Police received reports of a break-in at an address on Elm Drive at around 1.20am on Monday March 31, and 12.15am on Tuesday April 2, with damage inside the premises.

A 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, both from Risca, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage.

The 15-year-old girl was also arrested on suspicion of criminal damage following reports of a car being damaged on Sycamore Crescent on Friday April 4.

The pair have now been charged with these offences, and are due to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Friday April 11.

Inspector Chris Hopkin, of Gwent Police, said: “Neighbourhood officers continue to support the local charity, carry out regular patrols in the area and make further enquiries into the recent burglaries.

“Two teenagers are set to appear in court today, after officers charged them with burglary and criminal damage.

“We understand the impact these incidents will have had on the local community, and want to reassure residents that we will continue to act on any concerns they report to us.”
