Two teenagers have appeared in court in connection with break-ins at a charity base.

The teens, a 15-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy from Risca, cannot be named because of a court-imposed order due to their age.

The pair are accused of causing criminal damage at Community Volunteers Wales’ Sycamore Centre, within St David’s Methodist Church, on Elm Drive, Ty Sign, on March 31 and again on April 2.

They have also been charged with the burglary of St David’s Methodist Church on March 31 and April 2.

The duo were granted conditional bail and will appear at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday April 29.

Inspector Chris Hopkin, of Gwent Police, said: “Neighbourhood officers continue to support the local charity, carry out regular patrols in the area and make further enquiries into the recent burglaries.

“Two teenagers are set to appear in court, after officers charged them with burglary and criminal damage.

“We understand the impact these incidents will have had on the local community, and want to reassure residents that we will continue to act on any concerns they report to us.”
