Mayor Julian Simmonds attended the session along with deputy mayor Dawn Ingram-Jones

A French-themed morning of activities designed to stimulate those living with dementia has been held at Newbridge Memo.

The Memory Lane Café and activity group, held every Monday morning, is part of a wider programme delivered by Royal Voluntary Service to support people living with dementia and their carers.

During a recent visit from Caerphilly County Borough mayor Julian Simmonds, and deputy mayor Dawn Ingram-Jones, the group hosted a ‘French-themed breakfast bonanza’, featuring a continental breakfast prepared by one of the volunteers.

The session also included French games, music, and engaging activities designed to stimulate conversation and reminiscence for those living with dementia.

The mayor was first introduced to the group after speaking with members of the Royal Voluntary Service team at a recent gala, where he shared his interest in dementia and the support that’s on offer for those living with it and their carers.

Cllr Simmonds spoke during the recent session

Kathryn Hemmings, group coordinator, said: “We were delighted to welcome the mayor and deputy, who took the time to speak with every guest, answer questions about civic life, and immersed themselves fully in the morning’s activities.

“Their visit meant a great deal to our group, and we’re so pleased they were able to experience the warm and supportive environment we work hard to create each week. We hope they enjoyed the morning as much as we did.”
