Number 56 bus
Bus travel for those in the armed forces and veterans will be free on Thursday

Stagecoach has announced it will provide free bus travel to Armed Forces personnel and veterans on Thursday May 8 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

As well as veterans benefiting, any military personnel and cadets will also be eligible for free bus travel across south Wales next Thursday.

Those in uniform or carrying military ID, a veteran’s badge or medal, and cadets in uniform, can all travel for free.

This is a scheme Stagecoach has run for several years now, which it says will help people more easily attend local VE Day events and commemorations.

Martin Gibbon, managing director of Stagecoach South Wales, said: “We’re incredibly proud to employ many veterans, and it’s a privilege to recognise the bravery and dedication of our Armed Forces, cadets, and veterans.

“Offering free travel on VE 80 Day is a small gesture of appreciation for the enormous contribution made by our service men and women, past and present.”

Residents urged to apply for road closures ahead of VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations
