Further education students aged 19 or older could be eligible for a grant of nearly £2,000.

Applications are now open for the Welsh Government’s Learning Grant for Further Education, covering the 2025/26 academic year.

The grant provides up to £1,919 per year for full-time students with a household income of £18,370 or less, while part-time learners could receive up to £959.

This non-repayable grant aims to help with costs such as books, equipment and travel expenses, and help out adult learners who might otherwise struggle with education costs.

Vikki Howells, the Welsh Government’s minister for further and higher education, said: “Education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances.

“The Welsh Government Learning Grant for Further Education provides vital support for adult learners, and I am proud that we have been able to increase the amount given to learners to better support them in their educational journey, and help make a difference to their future.”

Ms Howells, a former assistant head of sixth form at St Cenydd Comprehensive in Caerphilly, added: “I strongly encourage anyone aged 19 or over in further education to check their eligibility for this grant and apply now.”
