Caerphilly Vets has had a base in the town for nearly 40 years

A new veterinary practice is preparing to open in Caerphilly, with an open day planned to mark its unveiling.

The £1.7million ‘state-of-the-art’ Caerphilly Veterinary Clinic will open its doors in the site of the former Poundstretcher and Lidl store in Castle View Shopping Centre.

Applicant Lextan, which runs a tanning salon next door, was granted planning permission in October last year to transform the old shop.

Caerphilly Vets, which has been based on Market Street for almost 40 years, has said it’s “outgrown” its current premises – but will keep it open as a branch surgery.

Expected to welcome its first patients on Monday July 7, the larger, more modern facility, will allow the team to offer more services, including two operating theatres, a dental suite, separate kennels for dogs and cats, and six consultations rooms.

Caerphilly Vets practice manager, Sarah Light, said: “Our new clinic is going to transform what we can do. We pride ourselves on offering outstanding care for our patients and we’ve opened the new clinic because we want to help more pets and introduce new services, as we are already at full capacity in Market Street.

Electric vehicle charging could be coming to shopping centre

“The additional space will enable us to offer a range of different services, such as pet confidence clinics and specialist surgeries that will benefit pet, and we can offer more appointments so we help more patients.”

She continued: “We’ve spent the last seven months making the space our own and everything has been carefully designed to ensure that visiting the vets is as stress-free as possible for both pets and their owners.

“Clients can also be assured that our team remains the same, and they will continue to see the vets, nurses, and receptionists that they know and trust.”

Ahead of the official opening, pet owners will be able to take a look “behind the scenes” of the new clinic between 10am and 2pm on Saturday July 5.
