Caerphilly Celebrates 26 Green Flag Awards for 2025/26

Caerphilly County Borough is once again flying the flag for excellence in green spaces, with 26 sites across the area receiving Green Flag and Green Flag Community Awards for 2025/26.

The awards, announced by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, recognise well-managed parks and green spaces that meet high environmental and community standards.

This year’s honours include several parks maintained by Caerphilly County Borough Council, such as:

  • Cwmcarn Forest
  • Morgan Jones Park
  • Parc Cwm Darren
  • Parc Penallta
  • Ty Penallta
  • Waunfawr Park (Crosskeys)
  • Ystrad Mynach Park
  • Brithdir Cemetery

In addition to these full Green Flag Awards, a further 18 local spaces were recognised with Green Flag Community Awards. These include community gardens, allotments, and memorial spaces such as:

  • Aber Valley Community Allotment
  • Caerphilly Miners Centre Climate Change Garden of the Future
  • Coed-Y-Werin/Caerphilly
  • Eco Park Cefn Forest
  • Libanus Lifestyle Community Garden
  • Michael Williams Memorial Garden
  • Morgan Jones Community Allotment
  • Pontygwindy Allotments & Community Growing Space
  • Pontywaun County School Memorial Garden
  • St Andrews Community Churchyard
  • St Martins Church
  • Trethomas Community Allotment
  • Taraggan Educational Gardens
  • Tirphil Community Hub
  • Van Ward Allotments
  • Waunfawr Community Garden
  • Windy Ridge Allotment
  • Ynys Hywel Farm

The recognition is part of a record-breaking year for Wales, with 315 sites receiving Green Flag status – the highest ever. Wales also retains its global leadership in the number of community Green Flag sites, with 223 awarded this year.

Owen Derbyshire, Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy, praised the efforts of communities and local authorities: “This achievement highlights the vital role these spaces play in supporting the health and wellbeing of communities across Wales.”
