Vandals have heartlessly destroyed the work of a dedicated group of knitters, who have been left feeling “gutted”.
Members of Caerphilly Miners’ Centre’s knitting group created a number of dolls, which were displayed on top of a postbox at the Asda supermarket in Caerphilly.
However, less than two weeks after the display was put up in the store’s foyer, it was destroyed – with all but four of the dolls going missing.
The incident reportedly happened sometime between 2.15pm on Thursday June 26, and 8am on Friday June 27, in an area of the shop not covered by CCTV cameras.
The knitters had firmly stitched the dolls together onto a postbox topper. However, Teresa Powell, the store’s community champion, said: “Someone has gone into the shop and cut it up with a scissors.”

Teresa, who works closely with the knitting group as part of her role, appealed for the return of the missing dolls.
She explained: “The knitters made this to spread joy. They worked hard for months to make this, and they put so much effort into it.”
“They did it because it was a nice thing to do.”
However, some good will come from the “mindless” act of vandalism – the four remaining dolls are set to be raffled in the near future to raise money for Velindre.
