Tŷ Hafan has marked 30 years since it first opened its charity shop in Caerphilly town – with boxing superstar Lauren Price MBE joining in with the celebrations.
The shop, on Market Street, first opened its doors on July 14, 1995 – less than three weeks after Price celebrated her first birthday.
Three decades later, the boxer from Ystrad Mynach was on the till to serve some lucky customers.
Her volunteer shift in the store followed a visit to the Ty Hafan hospice. “It totally opened my eyes to how much of an amazing place it is, and the people that work there and what they do,” said Price. “I’m really proud to be a part of it and support Tŷ Hafan.”
Joining Price to mark the occasion was Cllr Dawn Ingram-Jones, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough.
Cllr Ingram-Jones spoke with the charity’s CEO, Irfon Rees, and other staff about the impact the Caerphilly shop has had over the years in helping to support children and families.
